Reviewing the "Secrets of Krita DVD"

 "A quick, easy and simple way to learn Krita"

Presentation.

Not everyone likes (or is willing to)read a complete book. Increasingly we shape our skills through YouTube or internet platforms with online courses and video-tutorials.

Cover page.

The cover doesn't show lot of effects, but a very clean style like Animtim does in all of his paintings.

Contents.

Does It covers everything you need? Are there gaps? Errata? Correction system by web?
Animtim can be located in the IRC channel Krita so you can ask him or whoever on #krita channel.
The DVD covers a lot of contents. Enough to justify its purchase if you're a novice-intermediate user. If you are advanced user, this DVD may not be what you need.

Difficulty.

To whom it may concern mostly. How the author teaches.
The difficulty varies during the DVD. There are secrets that are very simple, others not so ovbious. Some may even be new to advanced users, which is appreciated.
As the teaching is modular we should not be surprised. This gives you a great flexibility. For example I Highlight Chapter 4 and 5 especially, not often explained or easy to understand . Animtim gives a good example simplyfing those concepts.

Durability

If the product becomes obsolete in a short time or not.
By the structure of the DVD I think we can speak of a long-term product. With subtitles in .srt format that makes easier translations for the community that wants to translate into multiple languages. [Something that I did in training Krita DVD vol2. Muses. Spanish subtitles (deaf audience) and English (Worldwide)].

What is taught in the DVD is very useful as it is used in the creation of any complex picture.

Final conclusion

Simple, direct and aimed target lessons. If you like people who will not stop talking, this is not your DVD. Animtim explains direct and without improvising. This type of modular teaching is perfect when you're on the train or have little time because you don't have to focus on a long video.

Things I liked:

• The amount of info covered is comprehensive and accurate.
• Focused and scripted lessons avoiding constant pauses to think on the ideas.
• No distracting music and a nice voice
• Good feeling when you end to wath the whole DVD.
• Expandability through srt subtitles
• promotes Krita development and free software.

Things to be improved imo:

• I would have liked a "mark" in the video, the number of "secret" he is explaining.Each video have 10 tips and secrets and if you're seeing them in no one session, would be perfect to know where to go.
• Although most of people speak English we can not forget the Spanish-speaking audience. And while the DVD provides the ability to view subtitles in SRT format there is still no version in Spanish.
• In the most complex parts more practical examples would have been appreciated.

Presentación.

No a todo el mundo le gusta leer o está dispuesto a ello. Cada vez más nos formamos a través de medios como youtube o plataformas de internet con cursos virtuales y tutorías.

Portada.

No muestra una portada llena de efectos, sino un estilo limpio muy propio de Animtim el creador del DVD.

Contenidos.

Cubre todo lo necesario? Hay lagunas ? Erratas? Sistema de correccion via web?
Animtim puede ser localizado en el canal IRC de krita.
El DVD Cubre muchas cosas. Suficiente para justificar su compra si eres un usuario novato-intermedio.  Si eres avanzado, puede que no sea lo que buscas.

Dificultad.

A quien va dirigido mayormente. Como se expresa el autor.
La dificultad varía durante el DVD. Hay secretos que son muy sencillos y otros no tanto. Algunos incluso pueden ser novedad para usuarios avanzados, lo cual es de agradecer.
Como el tipo de enseñanza es modular no debería sorprendernos. Esto le da una flexibilidad grande. A destacar el capítulo 4 y el 5 especialmente que explican conceptos no tan usados o tan sencillos de entender.

Durabilidad

Si se queda obsoleto o no en poco tiempo.
Por la estructura que tiene el DVD creo que podemos hablar de un producto a largo plazo. Con subtitulos en formato .srt facilita el que haya alguna comunidad que quiera traducirlo a multiples idiomas de manera muy simple creando los archivos .srt en su idioma. Algo que ya hice en el DVD de Krita training vol2. Muses . Con subtítulos en español( audiencia sorda) y en inglés (resto del mundo).

Lo que se enseña en el DVD es muy util ya que se usa en la creación de cualquier imagen medio compleja.

Conclusión Final

Lecciones sencillas, directas y al grano. Si te gusta la gente que no para de hablar, este no es tu DVD. Animtim explica directo y sin improvisar. Este tipo de enseñanza modular es perfecta para cuando vas en el tren o tienes poco tiempo porque no tienes que concentrarte en un video largo.

Cosas que me han gustado:

• La cantidad de información cubierta es amplia y  correcta.
• Lecciones concretas y con guión evitando constantes muletillas.
• No tiene musica que distraiga y la voz es agradable.
• Buena sensación al finalizar todo el DVD.
• Posibilidad de ampliación mediante subtitulos .srt
• Favorece ele desarrollo de Krita y el software libre.

Cosas que hubiera mejorado:

• Me hubiera gustado que pusiera a modo de mosca en el video, el numero de consejo por el que va ya que cada video tiene 10 consejos o secretos y si vas viendolo a cachos sería perfecto saber por donde vas.
• Aunque mucha gente habla inglés no podemos olvidar a la audiencia Hispano-Parlante. Y aunque el DVD ofrece la posibilidad de ver subtitulos en formato .SRT no hay aun ninguna versión en Español.
• En las partes más complejas se hubiera agradecido más ejemplos prácticos.
